Food scraps such as fruit and vegetable peelings, leftovers, coffee grounds and eggshells go in your food caddy. A hub may also accept paper, plastic, glass and metal in separate streams. Exactly what your hub takes is set by that hub and its processors, so check its list in the app before your first drop-off.

Keep it in its own caddy, away from paper, card and other dry material. Drain off liquids, and leave out plastic bags, cutlery and foil. Food waste mixed into dry recyclables is one of the most common reasons material gets rejected.

It goes to a processor suited to it. Some food waste is composted into a soil improver; some is used in a digester to produce biogas. The route depends on the processor and the material. BINMAN does not run these facilities itself.

At your community hub, usually a drop point at your building or estate. The app shows your hub and its details. Opening times and access are set locally by the hub.

Generally no. The model is built around dropping off at your community hub rather than doorstep collection. Some businesses agree scheduled collections instead, depending on volume and location.

You can register interest for your building or estate in the app. A hub needs a caretaker to run it and a collection partner covering the area, so setting one up is not instant.

Eligible contributions can earn money once they have been weighed and verified. Earnings are worked out by weight and stream against the rate the hub is working to, which can change. There is no fixed public price list.

After material has been weighed and verified. Timing depends on the arrangement at your hub and with its partners, so we don't promise instant payment as a universal rule.

Eligible earnings collect in your in-app wallet, and withdrawals are made to M-Pesa. BINMAN does not charge households to take part.

Yes. A business registers, identifies its waste streams, and agrees an arrangement with its hub or a collection partner. Material is then weighed and recorded the same way, with volumes shown by stream.

Yes. The prototype includes a hub agent view for caretakers who log and weigh drop-offs, and a collection partner view for managing collection days, bulk weights and deliveries.

No. The demo is the real prototype, but every name, balance, hub and partner in it is sample data. Nothing you do in it affects a real account or triggers a real payment.
